Open University Industrial Action

UoY UCU supports the Open University UCU’s call for industrial action:

OPEN UNIVERSITY STRIKE ACTION
==========================

S T O P   P R E S S

UCU members at the Open University will stage a one-day walk-out tomorrow following the university’s decision to push ahead with controversial plans to close seven regional centres, putting 502 jobs at risk.

SEE UCU on the OU for more information.

===========================

The OU management have announced the closure of Regional Centres and job losses. As a consequence UCU members have been balloted and have voted to take strike action and action short of strike should the employer pass a motion on the 24th November at their Council sanctioning the closure of the regional centres.

If Council reject the motion to close regional centres, there will be no further action.

If council pass the motion and the planned closures go ahead, UCU are planning industrial action as follows:

Wednesday 25th November, Strike day across all OU regions and head office in Milton Keynes;
From 26th November: Action short of a strike, involving marking boycott and work to contract;

From 30th November, strike days in individual regions. Leeds’ strike day is actually on Thursday 3rd December.

For both the 25th November and the 3rd December strike days, we are planning a picket line outside the OU regional office on 2 Trevelyan Square (next to the Marriot Hotel and opposite the Boar Lane entrance to Trinity Centre), from 7:30 am to 1pm.
